Week in Review: May 2-6

It's getting closer and closer to SUMMER!!!!! That's not stopping OJD though. We have CLE's to plan and trips to take to help our defenders keep doing awesome work. We hope to see you at everything we'll be announcing very soon.

Tip of the Week: Let's Get Rid of Those Shackles

  1. Ask that the hearing occur prior to the juvenile entering the courtroom

  2. Request that both the hand and leg shackles be removed

  3. Hold the court to the three reasons to shackle: maintain order, prevent escape, provide for the safety of the courtroom

  4. Enforce that evidence for any of these reasons should be current behavior, not prior behavior or acts

  5. Argue that “whenever practical” to be heard on the issue is anytime!
